For many, Dubai conjures up just one image – a glamorous destination for holidays, shopping and entertainment. This is justifiable given the emirate's major achievements in the hospitality and real estate sectors. Yet Dubai's intrinsic economic potential goes far beyond services. Our newest study "Dubai beyond services – The industrial transformation" reveals that if sufficient focus is placed on the industrial sector, Dubai could double its manufacturing GDP and add as many as 27,000 skilled jobs to the sector by 2030.

We identify six industrial sectors that could become the drivers of growth in Dubai over the next 15-years. These include:

  • Pharmaceuticals and medical equipment
  • Fast moving consumer goods
  • Aluminum and fabricated metals
  • Machinery and equipment

After decades of immense infrastructure improvements that put Dubai on the map as one of the most attractive business destinations, the emirate is ready to shift gears to pass beyond services and into a diversified economy with a strong industrial backbone. Dubai is once again open for business for industrial investors and the first movers will be the ones to benefit the most.
