Are Canadian Companies Robust Enough to Survive the Challenging Times Ahead?

Modern organizations face a unique combination of challenges and opportunities. On one hand, they have to deal with fundamental issues that call for urgent and immediate action. On the other, they are confronted with the challenge of uncertainty and major global trends, where different variables simultaneously influence future long-term scenarios.

One question is common on the minds of all decision makers: How can their organization not only survive uncertainty, but better respond to future challenges and opportunities?

Being robust does not mean that organizations must refuse to change course on strategy or execution. Rather, it means that they must be like a reed: sturdy, yet flexible enough to not be faced with strong winds.
Being robust does not mean that organizations must refuse to change course on strategy or execution. Rather, it means that they must be like a reed: sturdy, yet flexible enough to not be faced with strong winds.

To mark Roland Berger's 10th anniversary in Canada, we applied the principals in Roland Berger's global Robust Organizations framework directly to the Canadian market for this report. We also interviewed 30+ Canadian executives and CEOs across a broad variety of industries and share insights from candid conversations with them.

Our goal? To help Canadian businesses identify what they can do to become more agile and resilient and make recommendations to improve their robustness and ability to adapt and evolve with a changing environment.

We look forward to your feedback on the report, and to helping your build your own Robust Organization.

Roland Berger's Robust Organizations Framework

Roland Berger utilizes a holistic approach to robust organizations, based on industry and consulting insights, to help clients manage and navigate an uncertain and complex future. Our comprehensive Robust Organizations framework consists of six dimensions for organizations to follow, build, and maintain robustness:

  1. Purpose, Culture, and Strategy
  2. Leadership and Talent
  3. Financing and Investments
  4. Process and Organizational Dynamics
  5. Ecosystems and Networks
  6. Technology and Data

Roland Berger's Robust Organizations framework provides organizations the ability to react in the short term, to help guard against unexpected shocks and quickly grasp opportunities and reshape priorities; and to evolve in the medium to long term, including long-term purpose and vision, and the ability to explore new opportunity and evolve dynamically over time.
