Getting started at Roland Berger

Hi all! I am Souhayl Amar and I have been working for a year at Roland Berger's Paris office. During my studies, I did an internship in the Madrid office of Roland Berger thanks to the RB Global Trainee Program. I loved my time there and decided to join Roland Berger full-time after my studies.

Over the last year, I've had the chance to work on several engagements, mainly on corporate strategy. Last month, I was working on a growth strategy project for a construction services company. They were looking to diversify into other sectors and we helped them identify the adjacent industries with both the highest potential and a good level of accessibility. It was a very interesting assignment, involving several interviews with experts and workshops with the management team of the company. The fun part is that we flew to the company's offsite in the Bavarian Alps (see picture) to give a presentation to the ExCom! Although it was a two-day trip, we got the chance to have a typical Bavarian lunch before heading back to Paris.

It was my second trip to Munich with Roland Berger, the first one being the two week kick-off training for new joiners.

Zoom on the kick-off

The "kick-off" is a two week offsite organized several times a year for entry-level consultants. It usually takes place in the Munich Region for consultants from all over the Roland Berger world. In my kickoff, we stayed at a hotel in Hohenkammer, close to Munich. Days were usually packed with all sort of activities: lectures, workshops / trainings, games for team building, sport sessions… It was a great opportunity to better understand how Roland Berger works, thanks to Partners of the firm and guest speakers taking the time out to fly in and give us classes and presentations, but to also get to know consultants from other offices and make lifelong friends.

The highlight at kick-off for me was definitely the outdoor team session where we had to build an ice sculpture in small teams. My team and I built a polar bear but unfortunately, we did not manage to win. (see picture)

Overall, the kick-off training was a great experience and a nice way to start my journey at Roland Berger!
