Sina, Project Manager
Business Psychology
What educational/academic background do you have?
I studied business psychology at the Ruhr University in Bochum. Contrary to what many people expect, studying psychology is mainly associated with biopsychology, cognitive neuroscience and advanced statistics. Since Freud has never been empirically proven, there was not a single lecture about his theory on psychoanalysis.
Why did you decide to go into consulting?
During my first semesters I was convinced I should start working in "training and people development" in HR. After my first weeks as an intern in an HR department of a consulting firm, I got in contact with many of the consultants. What they told me about their job was so fascinating that I did another internship in consulting. I was directly captivated by the interesting tasks, settings, and variety of projects.
How can you use your skills at Roland Berger?
In general, psychological knowledge is very useful. Learning to pay attention to how people feel and what motivates them helps me within our own teams as well as in client interactions. Since I am working on sales and marketing projects, I can further apply my knowledge to improve sales processes and help our clients tackle pain points in their customer journey and marketing strategy.
What has been your favorite moment/project since you joined Roland Berger as a consultant?
It is probably no surprise that personal relationships with colleagues and clients are especially important to me. That is why my favorite memory is our summer event from last year. The time spent together and the opportunity to get to know colleagues outside of work was fantastic.
